As a leader you must continually build your techniques, capabilities and habits. You need to be able to evaluate honestly where you are, what strengths you have and what you need to work on. Some of the improvements can be external, some internal and at times it is simply awareness of your weaknesses.

External improvements you want may want to evaluate include:

  • The ability to effectively run a meeting
  • How to engage your audience

Internal improvements involve analyzing your head and heart and becoming more self-aware.

  • What is going on with you
  • How do you feel
  • What do you think about your situation

These types of improvements will develop your ability to project strength, to gain trust of your team, enable clear communication of your beliefs and what you are trying to accomplish. This buy-in from your team will allow you to help your team not only enjoy getting to the destination but also to enjoy the journey.

Some questions to consider:

  • Have you built effective skills, habits and tools for self-awareness?
  • Do you project your passion?
  • Are you developing your followers to be great leaders themselves?
