We believe that so much more is possible with action. Leaders and teams that execute produce increased results and live better lives.
There is a formula for execution and action.
Last month I was talking to a man who had owned a dozen different companies. He is very successful and is a wonderful man. One of the companies he had founded and was chairman for was a consulting company. This company was very good at what they did and gave great advice. However, it built “books” for clients and did not “get execution and results”. Their work was important and valuable but many times ended up sitting on a shelf somewhere.
He asked how we are different, which sparked us to put on paper a public version of our accountability process that has been our success in getting clients to “get execution and results”.
Below are 7 ideas that you can use in your organization this month, with more to come in next month’s newsletter (so stay tuned!):
- Clear Motivational Vision: Regardless of any short term disruption going on, we keep everyone focused on the value of getting to the destination. We may have to take detours, but the power of vision and what it does at all levels continues to challenge people to make progress through powerful actions.
- Results Based Relationship: We base our relationship on making progress on the journey and not on movement and activity. We are not interested in building a book for you but in in changing to a higher level of behavior. The focus is on knowing why, understanding, creating, growing, etc. However, it is all focused and getting a specific powerful sustainable result.
- Milestones: No race is sustainable without knowing where success lies along the way. Setting milestones helps us to celebrate, refine our strategies and recharge. This allows action to not only begin, but to continue and provide fuel for even bigger leaps. As the old saying goes “it is easier to cross the chasm in one step than two”. There needs to be a run-up via milestones to cross bigger chasms.
- Green, Yellow, Red: In getting results, we do not need a large amount of facts, details, KPI, etc. We will leave that to our meeting with the tacticians. For getting and sustaining accountability we need to be clear what is working well (green), what needs adjusting (yellow) and what needs additional resources (red). By doing this, we keep our strategic focus on powerful activity and not just activity.
- Practical Proven Advice: While we feel that we are very modern and progressive, much of what we do is ages old wisdom that works. We may have put a shiny wrapper on it and a coat of paint, but the reality is that our tools have been tested and tried over time.
- Simplicity: We do not build complex sophisticated machinery. We work within your existing processes and structure, allowing you to fit what is needed into where you are at right now. Instead of changing everything, we are looking for the most powerful “trim tab” that will get what you need right now and in the future.
- Step by Step: Most of our programs are weekly or monthly. We work with you and your team and then you test it and refine it for our next meeting. By going on the journey with you, step by step, your confidence and skill can grow.
