To have a great relationship with someone, business or personal, we need to have the 3 C’s: caring, comprehension, and capabilities. As leaders, the 3 C’s are essential to sustainable growth and development of any organization.
Leaders and their employees need to Care about the people around them (family, friends, employees, team, community etc.). This should be demonstrated by a willingness to give to others and to focus on the needs of other people rather than themselves. This value is shown by being willing to go through short term pain to better care for someone else. This is the heart in action. It is intentions that are thoughtful rather than knee-jerk. It is having the right long term reasons and the right beginning for every action. It is being able to see a better future for everyone.
The next “C” is the ability to Comprehend what the world is really like. People should be able to see and constantly add to their understanding of how the world works in depth as well as breadth. This is both a technical and psychological understanding of the world that is practical (street smarts). It is a strong mind and mental capacity that is expanded. Comprehension is understanding the parts and the whole, the forest and the trees.
The last “C” is being Capable. In other words, caring and comprehending are two parts, but when a person is capable, this person can actually “walk the talk”. It is this improvement of one’s abilities and practice that gets results. While the care is about intentions that work; comprehend is about understanding what is needed to make it work; and capable is more about taking the actions that work. It is becoming better and better in relationships. It is being able to do the “how”.
