What to Do About Eeyore

In this week’s video blog our expert guide, Don Hadley, discusses the idea of Eeyore in organizations.
If you remember from childhood reading, Eeyore is an extremely “gloomy gus”.  He exhibits no energy, no emotion, nothing.  If there is energy (whether positive or negative), organizations and leaders can work together to channel or focus that energy.  When there is no energy, there is nothing to work with.

Don reminds us that this type of employee sucks the energy from others and becomes toxic to teams and organizations.

Toxic Employees

It is critical to identify the Eeyores within an organization and then engage them.  This is the key to going from Eeyore to Piglet!

Three things for you to consider once Eeyores have been identified:

  • How can your leaders, teams and organization engage Eeyore?
  • How can interactions be modified to engage Eeyore?
  • What will your leaders, teams and organization do if Eeyore doesn’t engage?

Depending on your answers to the above questions, it may be a time to send Eeyore back to the “100 Acre Woods” or create a plan for dealing with negativity in your organization.
